Q: What do you do in the summer?
A: The Solar unit is designed to
passively capture the heat from the sun—a feature not needed during the summer.
As the temperature warms up and you want to moderate the interior temperature,
the first and the easiest step is to vent the home. By repositioning the lid
Q: What is so different about the glass? A: The “glass” we use in our homes is actually a polycarbonate, whish is a mechanical plastic developed to have certain characteristics. The features that make it so appealing to us are its transparency and its strength. What separates polycarbonates from glass and Plexiglas is that while they are all very strong materials, glass and Plexiglas can shatter if struck. Polycarbonate will dissipate the energy of any object striking it to prevent shattering. These same properties are what make polycarbonates the material of choice in bulletproofing. While a polycarbonate does bring an increased cost, we feel that it is worth the health and safety of you pet. Q: Why use cedar? A: The properties of cedar that make it our wood of choice are its excellent durability and its insect repellant properties. We wanted a material that was very attractive and would at the same time hold up to the wear and tear of the elements. We put a wood sealer on the Den exterior at the factory to provide you with years of reliability and beauty. We like that cedar is a natural deterrent to ticks and fleas. Q: How do I keep my pet warm at night? A: Unlike conventional doghouses that consist simply of plastic, or plywood our homes are made to protect your pets from all of the elements. The insulated Den portion of the home is designed to retain as much heat as possible through the night. The Den consists of 3/8” cedar sheeting sandwiched around ¾” Styrofoam insulation. The Solar unit acts like a storm window with dead air space to slow to flow of warm air away from the Den. The houses are sized for your dog’s breed to help contain your pet’s body heat within the Den. SunDog Homes also offers a K9-Kozy as an accessory. This is a quilted blanket that snaps into the Den and drapes down over your pet when it lies down. It helps hold your pet’s heat in to provide psychological security and additional physical comfort. Dog beds can easily be placed in either or both the Den and Solar units. Q: How much does it weigh and how do I move it around?
A: The SunDog Homes are constructed of
insulated panels made by sandwiching ¾” Styrofoam between two sheets of cedar
sheeting. A solid cedar wood piece serves as the facing and also serves as the
internal spacer for holding |
